| Each summer the Lockney Area Chamber of Commerce organizes our Old Fashioned Saturday celebration. It is a little bit of West Texas Americana. A number of years ago, the place to be on a Saturday afternoon or evening was downtown. That is where people gathered to visit, shop and play. We have tried to recreate the romance that once was prevalent on the brick paved streets of Lockney. We have a host of activities on and around Main Street. This year's Old Fashioned Saturday will be held August 18, 2001. Be sure to check back soon to see highlights of last year's event. The date for Old Fashioned Saturday 2002 is August 17. We ask our shop keepers to keep their businesses open late. So, there is plenty of shopping to be done. See our Variety & Gifts page to read about some of the shops that will be open. We host the Texas State Pedal Puller's Competition. Main Street becomes the venue for children to pull a heavy skid, chained behind a pedal tractor. Each participant qualifies at various local competitions. These qualifiers battle for a chance to move on to the national competition in Omaha, Nebraska. Three on Three Basketball is an event we began last year. Teams in various age brackets play one another for cash prizes and plenty of fun. A number of organizations and individuals set up booths. There are food vendors, crafts, toys, information and much more. One favorite is the Athletic Booster's dunking booth. Coaches, local business people and a few students take their turn at riding the pine plank while someone throws baseballs at the red bull's eye. After the sun goes down, a live band plays for the street dance. The red brick pavers of Main Street become the dance floor. This year's dance will feature a variety of music played by a local deejay. The Chamber of Commerce is having a raffle for a "A" Model John Deere pedal tractor. It will be on display at the Chamber Coke Booth. Tickets are available at FNB Lockney and will be available at the Coke Booth on Old Fashioned Saturday.
