The city of Lockney was incorporated in 1907. The city has around 2,200 residents and covers 991 acres. We have three full-time police officers. We also have an excellent volunteer fire department. Lockney's number one industry is cotton production. Around 75,000 bales of cotton a year are produced in the area and ginned in Lockney. There are three cotton gins in the city that gin for customers and one privately owned gin. There are a number of related business in town. Fertilizer, chemicals and equipment can all be purchased locally. The Tye Company, Cargill Hybrid Seeds and Caprock Industries employ a number of Lockney residents.
Lockney has an excellent school system. A number of students transfer into our schools each year. The Longhorn is the mascot of Lockney High School. Be sure to tune in Lockney Longhorn Varsity football on KVOP 106.9 FM each Friday night of the season.
